Steven C. Quandt Elected to Chairman of the Board of NACD

Steven C. Quandt, Executive Vice President of Columbus Chemical Industries, Inc. was elected Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Chemical Distributors, (NACD) at their annual meeting on December 9, 2004 in Dana Point, CA. Quandt has held positions as NACD Regional President 1999-2000, NACD Treasurer 2001-2002, NACD Vice Chairman 2003-2004 and NACD Annual Meeting Chairman 2003-2004. Quandt will serve a two-year term as Chairman. Other officials serving with Quandt are Vice Chairman Peter Y. Hess, President of John R. Hess & Co., Inc. of Cranston, RI, Treasurer Bruce Schechinger, President of BHS Marketing LLC, of Salt Lake City, UT, and James Kolstad, President of NACD located in Arlington, VA.

David Phelps Joins CCI as Technical Director

David Phelps joined Columbus Chemical Industries, Inc. (CCI) as Technical Director on November 15, 2004. Dr. Phelps brings with him more than 20 years of experience in technical services and marketing of research chemicals, laboratory reagents and reagents and kits for technology and the Life Sciences. David has a PhD in Chemistry from Carleton University in Canada’s capitol, Ottawa

CCI Builds New Processing Room for Bio-tech Products

CCI recently completed construction of a high-tech, dedicated production room for a customer-specific homogenization process that blends fatty liquids, water and other proprietary products for the biotech industry. CCI’s willingness to dedicate personnel, equipment and facility resources to this industry has been rewarded with significant growth in this rapidly expanding industry.

CCI Purchases Acid Distillation Units

Columbus Chemical Industries recently acquired ten acid distillation units capable of purifying various acids to ultra-pure quality levels. These units will be installed at CCI’s facilities in Columbus, WI and Phoenix, AZ to expand the company’s capabilities in the semi-conductor industry.

CCI Develops Capability to Package SEMI Grade Acids

During October of 2004, Columbus Chemical Industries installed a certified, Class 100 filling station and sub-micron filters to package SEMI grade acids and solvents into bottles. We currently offer SEMI grade Hydrochloric Acid, Sulfuric Acid, and IPA in bottles. Peroxide, Hydrofluoric Acid and Ammonium Hydroxide in SEMI grades will be offered soon.

CCI’s Operations Manager Attends Sulfuric Acid Workshop

On October 7, 2004 Columbus Chemical Industries Operations Manager Bob Zentz attended a Sulfuric Acid Workshop in Joliet, Illinois put on by NorFalco a Sulfuric Acid Manufacturer. Subjects covered in the workshop consisted of: how Sulfuric Acid is manufactured, safe shipment via trucks and tank cars, quality, first aid, security, storage tank materials of construction, piping and pumps, and properties of Sulfuric Acid.

Columbus Chemical Industries Operations Manager Bob Zentz attended the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) Operations Seminar in Orlando, Florida on September 22-24, 2004. The seminar is an annual event that attracts distributors from throughout the United States and exhibitors who supply goods and services to the chemical distribution industry. Bob attended workshops on topics such as DOT Hazardous Materials Requirements, Memory Enhancement, Security, and Spill Prevention

Columbus Chemical Industries Responsible Distribution Process (RDP) Administrator, Barbara Miller attended the National Association of Chemical Distributor’s (NACD) Code Coordinator’s Workshop for RDP in Orlando, Florida on September 21, 2004. Miller learned the latest new RDP initiatives related to Security and Hazardous Materials Transportation.

CCI’s Executive Vice President Delivers Paper on Responsible Distribution to the ASEAN Chemical Industry Council

Columbus Chemical Industries’ Executive Vice President, Steven C. Quandt delivered a paper on the topic of Responsible Distribution to the ASEAN Chemical Industry Council’s annual meeting in Singapore on September 17, 2004. The 10-nation council of chemical producers and distributors met at the Marina Mandarin Hotel to discuss how current global trends in chemical production and distribution impact the rapidly growing Asian economy.

CCI Signs A Major, Multi-year Sales Agreement

Columbus Chemical Industries, Inc. (CCI) signed a major, multi-year sales agreement to supply ultra-pure, raw material, acid blends to a major supplier to the semiconductor industry. Steven C. Quandt, Executive Vice President, stated that the agreement will significantly increase CCI’s production at its Phoenix, AZ location. Substantial investment will be made in equipment to increase batch size capacity and assure continuous quality improvement.

CCI Recognized As Top Contributor For Columbus/Fall River Relay For Life Cancer Walk

The Columbus/Fall River Relay for Life Cancer Walk drew many people to the Columbus High School Track. Roughly 400 people took part in the entire event, including 22 teams of walkers. The 15-member Columbus Chemical Team was recognized as the top team with a total of $6,670.69 in donations. Two of Columbus Chemical walkers were also recognized as the top individual fundraisers, Jim Stauffer raised $1,020.00 and Dodi Drolshagen raised $800.00. CCI matched the first $100 donated by each team member. All proceeds from the walk went to the American Cancer Society.

CCI Awards Scholarship to CHS Student

Senior Lydia Grundahl was awarded the 2004 Columbus Chemical Industries scholarship. Grundahl met the high standards of the scholarship by placing in the top 10 percent of her class. Grundahl will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison with plans to major in chemistry and enter the medical field as an emergency room doctor. The Columbus Chemical Industries scholarship offers the selected student a four-year, continuing scholarship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fields of chemistry, engineering, science education, mathematics or business. To maintain the scholarship, the student must maintain a 2.75 overall grade point average and make satisfactory progress toward one of the qualifying degrees. Further, the student has the option to return to Columbus Chemical anytime during breaks in his or her studies to work at the plant, learn the business and apply their studies in a real world setting.

Heber Ramirez Hired To Fill Newly Created Position of Process Engineer

Due to increasing customer demands for products from Columbus Chemical Industries (CCI) Phoenix, AZ facility, CCI hired Heber Ramirez to fill the newly created position of Process Engineer. Mr. Ramirez holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from Arizona State University and has worked in the semiconductor industry for the past 5 years. Ramirez will oversee process development at both the Phoenix, AZ and Columbus, WI facilities.

Bob Zentz joined Columbus Chemical Industries, Inc. (CCI) as Operations Manager on January 26, 2004. Mr. Zentz has 20+ years of experience in small-package, chemical packaging and will be responsible for operations at Columbus Chemical Industries two locations (Phoenix, AZ and Columbus, WI).

Columbus Chemical Industries, Inc. donated a total of $1,000.00 to the NICC Foundation as it matched employee contributions. The NICC Foundation which stands for Neighbors In Constant Caring began years ago as a holiday outreach program, and has now become a year round program. The NICC Foundation, which was developed by Columbus-native Julie Schultz-Hornbacher, is one of the top 10 volunteer / charitable organizations for the state of Wisconsin which receives gifts to help those in need.Columbus Chemical Industries, Inc. donated a total of $1,000.00 to the NICC Foundation as it matched employee contributions. Steven C. Quandt (CCI Executive Vice President) Elected to Vice Chairman of NACD

At the annual business meeting of the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) in LaQuinta, California, Columbus Chemical Industries’ Executive Vice President, Steven C. Quandt, was elected to the office of Vice Chairman of the association. NACD represents the interests of ~300 chemical distributors in the United States. Quandt will serve on the Board of Directors’ Executive Committee for the next two years and will be Chairman of the association’s Annual Meeting Committee.

Richard J. Sheard Elected to Columbus City Council

In the April 2002 general election for Columbus, Wisconsin, voters elected Richard J. Sheard to its City Council. Sheard was appointed to the Columbus City Council by then Mayor Mike Eisenga, in the year 2000 to fill the unexpired term of another alderperson who had resigned due to health reasons. Since his appointment and subsequent election to the position of alderman, he has served on the Public Works; Wage, Salary and Personnel (Chairman); and Judiciary Committees.
